I also take this opportunity of referring You to my letter of 17th September last to the Colonial Government, in which with the view of preparing a statement of the expenditure up to the present time and to enable the accounts to be adjusted, I asked them if they were prepared to assent to the principles therein specified, which are based on decision contained in Lord Knutsford's despatch. In reply to this the Colonial Government, in the letter dated 22nd September, have omitted all reference to the points raised.
